Positives - Pleasant location, fabulous restaurant and excellent staff.Negatives - the decor is tired and shabby. The further you travel away from the main entrance and restaurant, the tattier it is. The main staircase has massive stains on the carpet. Paintwork, decoration and furnishings are in generally poor condition. The guest lounge has the most uncomfortable chairs and sofas I have ever sat upon - hardly any filling in the cushions.Our room was very disappointing. Upon arrival we discovered the bed was broken. It was repaired very quickly . The decor was very tired and grubby.The bathroom had an over the bath shower. Unfortunately the shower screen had not been fitted correctly and so we ended up paddling in water after every use inspite of our efforts to plug the gaps. It is blatantly obvious there is a problem with the shower screen but, judging by the stains and mould on the bath panel, it has been ignored.I have read that this is a luxury hotel. It is not.To end on a positive note, the staff are this hotel's greatest asset - polite, friendly and efficient. The restaurant is outstanding. We enjoyed three delicious dinners and breakfasts. If I visited this area again I would definitely dine in the restaurant but would not stay in the hotel unless it had been refurbished.
